Many experts warn against chemicals found in cosmetics for they can cause allergy, irritation, have a hormonal impact on the body, can even affect male genital development and also obesity. Many studies are being done currently on those chemicals and companies are becoming more and more transparent and removing toxic chemicals out of their products.
However, currently, the cosmetic industry is not regulated by the FDA and many elements can have a damage on the skin and can penetrate into the body and have an impact there as well.

Below are the main ingredients of concern:
- Fragrance, Perfume, PEG which may contain phthalates and other ingredients
- Triclosan and Triclocarban found in hand soap, bar soap, toothpastes or antimicrobial clothes or items for their possible hormonal impact seen in animal studies.
- Paraben: ingredients which include propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl and more.
- Oxybenzene found in skin products mostly in body and face sun protection
- Formaldehyde, Parfum, PEG in hair products
- Toluene, formaldehyde, and DBP in nail polish.

Wether you are pregnant or have a small baby, avoiding chemicals is even more essential.
The AAP warns that some additives and chemicals especially phthalates which may hide under "fragrance" or "perfume". They mention that they may have a hormonal impact on the body. Can possibly impact male genital development, obesity and more.
The AAP and EWG also warn against parabens, which may have a hormonal impact as well.
The environmental workers group has a database whereby you can get. list of products that are low in the toxic elements of concern. It is Called SkinDeep and you can visit the website or download the App.
